WHAT YOU THINK REALLY CAN AND DOES (OFTEN) BECOME A REALITY: A SNIPPET FROM MY AFTERNOON

Today I spent the afternoon preparing for clients, and reminding myself just how fascinating the human brain actually is.

Did you know that the same part of the brain is fired up when we imagine doing something, as when we are ACTUALLY doing it. Be it imagining running a race, fighting, arguing, or achieving a goal.

Now can you see why those dreams where you have argued with someone leaves you still a little 'irritable' and suspicious when you wake up? Lol. Your brain really believes it happened! Lol.

Secondly, did you know that every emotion you experience releases a chemical within your body? Our body then begins to become addicted to the chemical - even creating situations that will cause the emotion in order to get its 'fix'. So for those who seem to be forever optimistic, happy and joyful... their body is likely addicted to the corresponding chemicals. For those who always seem gloomy and continously find a problem in the solution? Yep, you guessed it, their body needs its fix.

One of the things I enjoy as a Therapist is giving Clients the psychoeducation and tools, like this diagram in the picture, to begin understanding what is happening within their own body and mind - beginning the process of taking their control back, and creating their own outcomes. Once we understand what is happening, especially in cases of anxiety and PTSD, we can begin rewiring the brain to react differently to threat (perceived and real), and most importantly, realise that we are not going 'crazy'. It always, always, starts with Self. With that said, I am wishing you all a blessed and productive week ahead; one that truly exceeds all expectations.
