The lie about being a Super Mum / Super Dad: Just do the best you can... under the circumstances.

At a Children's Group a couple of weeks ago a few of the Mums pretty much cornered me to ask some questions: 1) How do I get my Son to speak so well at such a young age? 2) How do we manage to always be 'so well put together'? (said begrudgingly). 3) How do I fit everything in. . So let me be clear here: My simple answer is that I DO NOT fit everything in. Somedays I won't do that 'much needed clothes wash', on others I will prioritise one or a few things over others & things simply will have to wait, and on somedays, we have a 'change of plans day' & stay home in our Pjs and eat a takeaway because I neither have the energy or will to cook. And, that is OK. . At all times, I do the BEST I CAN... UNDER THE CIRCUMSTANCES. So as said above, that might not be my general 'best' when I'm not tired, sleep deprived, or needing to tend to a poorly toddler, but it is THE BEST I CAN DO UNDER THOSE CIRCUMSTANCES. . So, how I manage to do it all is by simply not doing it all 🤷🏾‍♀️. I highly recommend it. . Being a parent I have not had more than two weeks of uninterrupted sleep in nearly two & a half years (more if we include the last trimester). Just yesterday morning I was woken by Bubby at 4-something-am who had put his hands in his nappy and smeared poo all over his hair, bed, and  rail. So up we were, bathing and cleaning before rushing out in the rain with him strapped to my back to attend the function above in support of a dear friend. I won't bore you with the toddler crying spells, stops for lunch and snacks, to then be woken SEVEN TIMES throughout the night until 04:37am when he finally fell asleep, only to wake up at 7am to start our day 😅 (this is the reality for most toddler parents too). . So Parents... just do what you can. Do not get consumed by 'how' you think others are parenting, and just do the best you can, under the circumstances. Who the heck are you keeping up appearances for? I can tell you as a Therapist... no one's life is as perfect as it seems, and most adult children are far more affected by a worn out depressed parent, than a messy home, or not having that costume handmade and covered in glitter. Just do the best you can, under the circumstances . You are doing great 😘. .
